Not so good the first time, really good the second time.
So I bought this dish on my first order and the pork had wayy too much fat for me. I was very disappointed because I love al pastor. But on my second order I decided to try again because I don't eat red meat, so it was one alternative without repeating too many dishes. The second time the consistency of the pork was crunchy and delicious. I added cilantro, lemon and hot sauce as its shown in the picture and its really a game changer. A whole new plate was created. I loved it, keep it coming.
Bring on the heat!
I just got back from a long trip away from home and had to eat out quite a bit. This is what I had for dinner my first meal at home. I was impressed with the generous serving size. The pork was very tender and spicy. I love some heat. I did cut the larger pieces into smaller bite sizes but I think it kept its moisture with the larger pieces. So grateful for having this on hand so I could get a healthy meal when I got home.
Glad you enjoyed, Kat! I love this one cut up and heated in a skillet for a little browning on the pork when possible! Cheers! Diane
I ordered the Keto Box and this was one of the included dishes. my favorites so far. Meat was was tender and flavorful and Cauli rice was perfectly cooked. Mexican dish without all the guilt
Flavor was great but the meat texture was off
I loved the flavor and size of the meal but the cut of meat utilized had a lot of grissle and I wasn’t even able to chew it.
Hi Marcy- Thanks for your order and for taking the time to leave a review. I definitely hear what you're saying about this particular cut of pork, and I want to explain why it has more fat on it than perhaps you were expecting. Unlike the pork tenderloin, this is a fattier cut of meat (shoulder/butt)! I actually love the pork fat in this dish as I think it adds amazing flavor and I love that element. It certainly isn't everyone's taste, though it seems to be a favorite (top 2 or 3 of our first 10 meals launched), so I think it's simply a matter of preference. Of note, my preferred way of heating this meals is in a skillet, and I slice the larger chunks of meat up before heating that way - which does also help to render a bit of the fat down slightly further. Also recall that these were originally keto-friendly meals, so that's why we included some fattier cuts of meat. In any event, to avoid this experience going forward, I recommend you stick to dishes that are either made from pork tenderloin or ground pork and avoid our more "cubed" pork cut type of meals. I hope that helps!
